Book Cover Contest - Get your picture printed on a book cover!

History :reading:

Almost six years ago, my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the pancreas, and the prognosis is poor, with fewer than 5% of those diagnosed still alive five years after diagnosis. Complete remission is still rare.

By the end of 2010 in the United States, it is estimated about 43,140 individuals will be diagnosed with this condition, and 36,800 will die from the disease.

When my father got his diagnosis, my mother started writing a book. My mother, being a writer, always clears her mind by writing her thoughts down. She named her book "Undantagstillstånd", which is a Swedish book, which translates into "State of Emergency". This is a biographical story of a female in her 40's who is living with a husband whom is suffering from the awful and ugly disease that is cancer.

The Story Summarized :bookdiva:

This book is about how a family is affected by a family member whom gets a terminal illness. It describes the waves of hope and despair, medical reports, the results of alternative medicine and about getting both understanding and misunderstanding from the outside world. An adult couple's relationship is also strongly influenced by the one party's illness, which is accurately described in this book.

The book is written in Swedish by Annette Hagberg, and it will be released on Papertalk Publishing House next year, and sold both online and in Swedish stores. The only thing missing now is a book cover...

The Contest :hmm:

The contest is about submitting a picture, either a photograph or drawing, that somehow can be related to the book. It can convey all the different feelings that can relate to this particular situation - be it despair, personal decay, deterioration, anxiety, pain, sadness, dolour, or anything else you can think of, as long as it can be related to the book's topic.

Guidelines :slow:

If you wish to enter this contest, please follow these guidelines:

  • Your picture has to be at least (preferably larger) 3449 x 2552 pixels (292 x 216 mm or 11,497 x 8,507 inches) at 300dpi
  • Your picture has to relate to the topic of the book, if you don't know what the topic is, go back to the beginning of this article
  • Your picture is to be submitted to me, sic-purity, in a note here on deviantART
  • You may use any of your deviations, old or new, as long as they meet the aforementioned dimension requirements
  • Submission deadline is December 20th, 2010

Prizes :w00t:

The winning submission will get his or hers picture printed on the book cover, and therefore giving us full permission for this purpose. The winner will also receive a copy of the book, if desired (please remember that it will be printed in Swedish), after it has been printed. I will also announce all of the contest participants and their contributions, both in my journal and in a future news article.

By entering, you are giving us full permission to use your image for printing this book, if you were to win the contest. The winner will be picked by me and my family, and will be contacted a couple of days after the deadline.

:worship: I am seeing forward to getting submissions all over my inbox, good luck and have fun!

So, today is a good day. Feels like a big breakthrough. CharityGuildmaster from Canada suggested one of my deviations for a DD, and guess what? pullingcandy thought it was nice enough to reward me with one! :deviation:

Thank you very much, and big thanks to everyone who has checked it out and left a comment and/or a fav!

Well, about one month ago, I put up a drawing contest with the subject The Sandman in my journal, and a 1 year subscription prize. I also submitted this to the news section, and I noted a few traditional art groups about promoting my contest. But unfortunately, not one single soul was interested in entering this contest, and that made me kinda sad. One club did promote my contest though, and for that I'm thankful.

And I did get one comment on the news article (oh my god, really?), so I'll wait and see if this person wants to try it out. Or else, I will get it drawn somewhere else. It just makes me kind of annoyed.

Note
I will still take contest entries, even though the deadline is passed with a few weeks. If you'd like to try it out, go ahead and enter, but I can no longer offer a prize other than journal and news article feature for the winner. But if you just feel like it and have nothing better to do, I would be grateful for your entry!

In other words...

I've switched journal CSS again, since I found Solitude12. Therefore, I shall credit him the way he deserves.

As some of you might know (well, most of you don't know, but anyways...), I am a huge fan of english author Neil Gaiman's graphic novel series The Sandman. I have decided to get a tattoo of some of the characters from The Sandman library. And since I'm not a great illustrator, I have decided to take this one step further and make it into a deviantART contest.

The winner of this contest will receive a one year subscription, or a print in the same price range or, if preferred, a cash prize equivalent to the prize of a one year sub.

Contest rules and guidelines

The characters that should be included in the tattoo is the following (including keywords for each character):

The Seven Endless
Death  (it's vital that she is depictured as happy)
Delirium (formerly Delight)
Desire
Despair
Destiny
Destruction
Dream
Other Characters
Matthew
Merv Pumpkinhead (less important, but still a plus)

The image should be sketched in typical comic book style, and the winning image will be tattoed on either my arm or above my ankle. Of course the winner will get to see the result of the tattoo, which will be done at Rough Stuff Tattoo by award winning tattoer Mankan.

Deadline

The deadline is due on august 1st, that will leave you around three weeks to complete your contribution. Now, get on with it! :aww:
